Strength For The Assignment

Nov 9, 2025    Pastor Steven Wilson

Each one of us has an assignment—your specific calling or purpose from God. You are called to take action now; God has a unique need for your life. You can no longer remain on the sidelines. The enemy may try to tell you that you lack what is necessary for this assignment, but remember, your call is specific and intentional.

People are assigned to your life, and there are people that others cannot reach, but you can. This personal responsibility cannot be postponed—do not wait another day. For instance, as referenced in 2 Timothy 1.5, your influence is needed now. As we move forward, let's consider the types of roles this assignment might involve.

There is a certain grace when you step into your assignment. When you take the step, grace will provide the resources. You have to take the step of grace. There is a strength that only comes by grace. You have to have faith in God to take the step.

There are three professions for Timothy to consider

Soldier - His aim is to please the one who enlisted him. We are encouraged to be good soldiers. Not to get entangled in civilian pursuits. You are separated from them. There is an oath and a code of ethics. Your life is no longer yours. You can’t do or wear what you want. Your goal is to please the one who sent you. The uniform gives you away. What about you is different? Is it how you treat people, or do you act like everyone else? We have to separate ourselves. All cultures are secondary to the Kingdom Culture. The Kingdom Culture has its own code of ethics. You cannot be a people pleaser. We cannot please people and God at the same time. Please God or please everyone else. It cannot be both. God goes with us on the battlefield.

Athlete - An athlete is not crowned unless the rules are followed. The rules must be followed. When rules are restrictive, we have a problem. When we trust that the rule-giver is good, then the rules are good. Rules are given not to control us; God gives us rules because He loves us. Parents and elders can see what you cannot see. Honor the rules. They are good and profitable. We have to live according to the rules of the Rule-maker. We must stay in God’s presence and in His word to ward off distractions.

Farmer - Farmers have to understand the stages and life cycle of crops. The stage of preparation cannot be despised, because it will mess up the stage of cultivation. It is the same in the Christian life. There are different stages. God grows believers from he seed to the place where He wants to plant you. Do not despise the place where God has currently placed you. What you are doing is not insignificant. It is necessary for your next step. Do not do your work half-heartedly. God will use where you are.

2 Timothy 2 tells us there are some things that need to die. He removes some things in you, but leaves you breathing. We have to allow God to take the bad things away. He has to torch those secret places. Let Him minister to those places. God remains faithful to us. You cannot lose with God on your side. Recognize the authority God has. Understand the authority you walk in.
